Last days of school

Hope and Grant wrapped up third grade and kindergarten with a bang! Grant had an absolutely perfect (couldn't get better at all!) report card, and Hope not only had great grades but improved a couple and was invited to join the GT math program for fourth grade. Such smarties!

Hope really enjoyed a nice group of friends this year, and continues to amaze me with how well she gets along with everyone. The sporty kids, the popular kids, the fringe kids - she bounces between them all and seems perfectly happy with it. She's seen a few instances of "girl drama" at school, and knows that she's not interested in getting tangled up in it if she can help it. Good girl!

Grant took longer than I'd expected to get in the "groove" of going to kindergarten. He thought the days were long, and he'd like to have gone only every other day (like preschool). But somewhere about halfway through he accepted the new schedule and started rolling with it. Not that he ever had fits about it or anything, he's just a homebody and would rather not have done anything for nearly 7 hours a day 5 days a week!

He enjoyed his classmates too, but never really figured out what he wanted to do during recess. He bounced around from one thing to another, and I worried that he wasn't making friends. Most of the other boys wanted to play soccer or basketball, and I couldn't get Grant interested in trying either. But I came to realize that going from one thing to another is pretty common with kindergarteners, and that the other kids ~did~ like him and ~did~ try to include him. That made me feel better, though I'll be happier once he has regular recess buddies!

All in all, it was a good year. Hope got to try a bunch of new clubs and activities, and Grant learned a lot and adjusted to being in school.

I don't know how anyone could best them at reading, logic, science, etc. but
relationships can be hard and kids cruel. I am praying for a few good friends and
social success for both of them.

Unfortunately, if this silly stuff affects your kiddos in a bad way, you will eat your heart out. ( not expecting any of this, just praying anyway! )
