Christmas at Grandma & Grandpa's

I'm sure this will change as my kids get older and Christmas mornings are spent at our house, watching their excitement and surprise, but for now Christmas still doesn't feel like Christmas until we're at my parents' house. It's the little things I've come to expect after 30 Christmases that give me the warm fuzzies - the music, the cookies, the old stockings, watching White Christmas, someone handing out gifts and everyone enjoying each other.

Even though we didn't celebrate with the fam until the 27th, it still felt right. True to form, Hope loved the nail polish and lip gloss in her stocking ~almost~ to the exclusion of other gifts. She did her own nails before we opened gifts, and she did a decent job!

Grant let Hope open all his gifts this year, though I'm sure that won't happen in years to come. For now, he was more interested in smiling and cooing at everyone. If he falls in love with Aunt K to the degree that Hope has, they're going to have to fight over her :)

Hope started out handing out gifts, but quickly grew tired of that. It was way more fun for her to investigate all the packages, help people open presents, and play with stuff.

She got down to business on a few gifts, and was happy with everything she got. But nothing got her as excited as the ...

Scooter! Or "Stooter" in Hope-speak. She wore out at least 4 adults going for laps around and around the house. Too cute!

By the time all the gifts were exchanged, it was getting late and Hope was at the end of her rope. She was a handful when it was time to load up and head home. But with all the new toys and loot she got, want to guess what she cried for?
The lip gloss from her stocking. What a cheap date!

We feel the same - Christmas isn't Christmas until the whole family is together....whatever the date on the calender. So glad to see this entry, because we have been feeling that, with all the changes in our family, our old traditions didn't mean so much anymore. We minimized decor, food, etc this year, but will pull out all the stops from now on as long as it matters to you. Hope and Grant-as always-were adorable and a precious, precious part of our Christmas. Having OUR girls around the tree?...the best gift of all!

Hannah got the same scooter, in pink. She LOVES it but wants a horn for the handlebars so it can be a "tooter scooter" (and, I have no idea where she came up with that one).
