Miss Independent

I've mentioned that Hope wants to do everything like a big girl lately. Many times a day I hear, "No, Hope do it!" While it's a little more work to let her have big girl cups and big girl chairs, I'm usually happy to let her have that bit of independence.

But one thing that's been a struggle is teeth brushing! She's always been really cooperative about letting Daddy and me brush her teeth, but now she wants to do it herself. And, really, that doesn't result in brushing as much as toothpaste sucking.

We're making progress though. We're also working on taking turns, so we've been combining the two lessons. First Hope gets a turn with the toothbrush, then it's Mommy or Daddy's turn. She's not thrilled about sharing (is she ever?) but it works. For now ...

We absolutely have the same problem. It's usually solved by counting. I count to 10 (in medium-to-quick speed) while Hannah brushes and then I count to 10 again (at a much slower pace) while I brush for her. It works at least once a day.

On the times it doesn't work a threat will usually do the trick :-)

I'm impressed with you people who manage to brush your kids' teeth more than once a day :)

I do the turn taking too. Bean's a bit scared of my evil glare, so when she whines, I pull that out and it goes alright :)

Remember the evil glare. It's totally essential to the mom arsenal.
