As we creep up on Hope's second birthday, I can think of many milestones we've crossed with happy hearts and tears of joy - first words, first steps, sleeping through the night, weaning, etc.
Tonight we crossed a major milestone that wasn't so pleasant for any of us: the first official all-over-the-place throw up.
There's a chance it's my fault too! Hope had fallen asleep in my lap, but went nuts when I put her in the crib. I thought, 'she's obviously sleepy, so I'll leave her for a minute and she'll settle down.' In my defense, that's what would normally happen.
Not this time. She's been a little congested, and I think it caused her to gag as she cried, resulting in what sounded like someone pouring a pot of chili all over the floor (you're welcome for that!). And the crib, and her jammies, and her stuffed animals. I know this because it happened so fast, I hadn't even gotten out the door yet! So maybe it wasn't my fault, right?
By the time we got to Daddy, to enlist his help, the hallway and I were covered in puke too. Thankfully, oh thankfully, Daddy doesn't mind doing things like mopping up puke. So Hope and I changed clothes, brushed teeth, and read more books while poor Daddy cleaned up all the mess.
Hope is finally in bed, clean, and asleep ... hopefully for the night! I'd like to make it another two years at least before we do this again!
