4 years of Hope

When I tucked Hope in tonight, I mentioned that it was the last time I'd be tucking her in as a 3-year-old. We've been talking about tomorrow being her birthday for weeks, but something about saying it that way hit me like a punch in the gut.

3 is over. And I loved 3! I loved 1 and 2, but I really especially loved 3. Grandma tells me that 4 is delightful, and I can already see that it will be. Hope's sense of humor is kicking in, her logic is developing, she's learning new and interesting things. But Hope, age 3, will forever be cemented in my memory as this affectionate, quirky, tender girl who loves her Mommy with all her heart, who is full of opinions but almost never out of line or in trouble, and who radiates beauty inside and out.

Hope has always been a Mommy's girl, recently more than ever. She loves the rest of our family, and all her friends, but there's nobody she'd rather be with than me. I don't know if that will last into the 4's, so I'm soaking it up while I can. That silly, sweet little fairy skipping around my backyard may not call me her "very best friend" forever, but if it's possible I think she may be mine :)

Love that picture! I think it's great to remember the lasts. We usually remember the firsts, but the lasts seem so much harder to say good-bye to!
