I know there are parents out there who are economical enough to bleach out the squirty bath toys when they start getting all gross and mildewy, but I am not one of them. Until recently, I've just thrown them away and not thought twice about it. But now that Hope is tracking on pretty much everything (!) I can't get away with much. She asked where a couple of her bath toys were the other night, and I explained in great detail how they got yucky so I threw them out, thinking that would suffice. Um, no. She didn't get upset, but it clearly didn't sit right with her.
So I picked up some new bath toys - the foam letters/numbers that stick to the wall - and some new "big kid" bodywash. I figured I'd thrill her the next night at bathtime. But she saw the goods lying on the bathroom counter when she went in for her goodmorning pee, and that was IT. Total glee, and total insistence that she get a bath immediately. Fortunately, we had nowhere to be, so I got to be cool and give in :)

The shampoo/soap smells like green apples, so she got gobs of suds on her hands and smelled them repeatedly.
Then I gave her the hand mirror so she could make "crazy hairdos" and look at them. That's become a staple of bathtime ever since.

I convinced Hope that the rest of the squirty toys were probably gross too, and she happily scooped them up and threw them in the trash herself. I bet it won't be long before the foam letters get nasty ... maybe I should start stockpiling bath toys now!

At least you got rid of yours...ours squirted something really icky out and alas, they are still with our toys! I guess since they don't really play with them anymore I should do the same thing you did!
She is so cute! I love the foam letters and numbers idea.
I just convinced my kids to only take showers. They each get a plastic cup and go crazy in there. Now, I just need to get one of those dual shower heads so they can stop fighting over who gets to stand under the water.
