It's really interesting to watch Hope and Grant grow in their maturity and see how they choose their friends. Being younger, or being a boy (I'm not sure) Grant is just now getting to the point where he cares much about spending time with school friends outside of school. But so far, I think we've been pretty lucky with the kids Hope and Grant like to be with. And I hope that they'll continue to make good friendship choices as they head into their tween and teen years!
Over the summer, I got a bunch of tickets through Macaroni Kid for the KidzBop concert. KidzBop is a band of talented kid singers, who sing popular songs but slightly alter any 'objectionable' lyrics to make them more kid-friendly. We really like them! Both Hope and Grant got to choose two friends to bring, and we took this adorable group to the show. Daddy knew the other two boys from Cub Scouts, which was nice, and Hope chose her favorite two sidekicks that we know well. They loved their first 'real' concert, the experience of eating Happy Meals in the car on the way into the city, and the adventure of having to run back to the car in torrential rain after the concert. We came home soaked to the bones, but the giggles and shouting from the back seat indicated that it was a great night!
A couple of these same friends came over another day for a water balloon fight and the "Eat It or Wear It" challenge. Luckily, their moms are pretty laid back! For Eat It or Wear It, you choose a brown bag with some sort of mystery food item inside, then you flip a coin to see if you have to eat it or wear it. Hilarious! We had things like refried beans, a twinkie, mayo, apple pie filling, feta cheese, salsa, leftover taco meat ... whatever I could round up. I literally hosed them down afterward then sent them to shower. It was a mess, but worth every minute!
