Tough on the outside, soft on the inside

Grant can be so thoughtful for such a rough and tumble guy. I recently asked him what he wanted to get his teachers for an end-of-school gift. He thought for a second then said, "They should have diamonds!" Well, real diamonds are a bit beyond my teacher gift budget, but we put some cute little plastic diamonds leftover from Hope's birthday party into fancy little pouches for his teachers. Then we went to TJMaxx, where Grant was deeply involved in browsing and picking things out for Ms. Gail and Ms. Bev. We finally settled on fancy little soaps in fancy little boxes and a pair of earrings we thought suited them each.

Grant was feeling very excited and proud about the gifts he picked out, so he didn't want to wait until Tuesday, which is the actual last day of school. So we took them in on Thursday and spent a few minutes with his teachers while they opened their gifts. I explained how Grant said they should have diamonds, and they were both super touched! Ms. Gail said she'd keep them forever and Ms. Bev got a little teary-eyed and said Grant is such a sweet-hearted little guy and she just knows he'll make an excellent husband! They seemed to like the soaps, and Ms. Gail put her earrings on right away. Grant was beaming, seeing their reactions and knowing he'd picked well. Such a sweet boy!

Incidentally, Grant was wearing a new shirt and new shoes that day. He felt VERY handsome, and was soaking up the compliments from the other preschool moms. He just knew he was looking good! Then after school we had a pizza lunch with Grandma. Grant accidentally dripped some pizza sauce on his jeans, then hung his head and said, "Aw, man! Now I'm not handsome anymore!"
