Tea Party

Saturday afternoon looked promising, but quickly turned grey and rainy. We'd spent the morning doing chores around the house and were ready for some family play time. Rather than the usual bevy of pretend games or art projects, we ended up having a little tea party. It was, again, one of those rich "white bread" times I hope to eat on for years to come.

Hope decided we should dress up. To her that meant accessorizing her dress. To Grant it meant his Spiderman costume! They got me out of the grubby clothes I'd been painting in and into my Easter dress. They gave Daddy a free pass, I think because they didn't know what to put him in.

The tea party fare was pretty laughable - tea for me and Daddy, apple juice for the kiddos, and a plate of cookies, crackers, and cheese. But they enjoyed themselves, and Hope tried to teach Grant how to hold his pinkie finger out. He couldn't quite get it.

We played a few rounds of Zingo, all the while trying to remember to call each other "dahling." I'm pretty sure we had to do that a couple of years ago when we did a tea party with Grandma and Grandpa. But this time Hope gave us some motivation - if you forgot to say "dahling," you had to do ten push-ups.

Our goofy little tea party transitioned into dinner and a movie (a rare treat). The dinner was very ordinary, the show was cute, but the company was sublime!
