Hope just loves her Sunday school class. The church we've been going to has such a great reputation for it's children's programs, which is a big reason why we're there. As a child, I went all through middle and high school at this church, and I can attest to the special emphasis they place on children's ministry.
I think part of what Hope enjoys so much is that her group is combined kindergarten and first grade, so she gets to mix with slightly older kids (including her good friend Maddie). She's mentioned a couple of times that some of the older kids bring their own Bibles to church, and can look up the verses for the lesson. When she asked if she could learn how, I remembered an old Bible of mine that has the chapter tabs along the side. I told her she could have it, and thrilled her to pieces when I pointed out the inscription - it was given to me by my parents when I was six years old. She was even more thrilled when I then inscribed it to her from me.
As is often the case when she wants to learn something technical, she sat with Daddy for a lesson. He taught her how to look for the book, chapter, and verse. She listened very attentively. It was super sweet. I can't believe she's nearly the age I was when my parents gave me that Bible. I still remember that. And I guess that's why I'm touched by this scene ... because I think she'll remember it. And if she doesn't, I hope she sees the picture and smiles.
