Frisky

Yesterday was Hope's last day of her first year of preschool. Knowing that it was her last chance to bring home the class gerbil, we invited Frisky to come stay with us last weekend. Hope was thrilled with the responsibility! She gave Frisky a place of honor in her bedroom, but of course Frisky had to vacate every night because her scurrying kept Hope awake. Nevertheless, Hope was eager to feed her every day, clean out her cage, and give her cardboard tubes to play with.
Grant is the one who really enjoyed Frisky. I think because he didn't know in advance that she was coming, there was just suddenly a gerbil in the car with us, he squealed and waved 'hello' to her the whole ride home from school. Grant made frequent stops into Hope's room to check on his gerbil pal, and he was beyond amused the couple of times we put her in the plastic ball and let her roll around. Except, try explaining to a 20-month-old boy that you can't throw a gerbil ball ... hence, why Frisky wasn't in the ball more than a couple times.
Of course the cats were interested in Frisky too. They are the main reason we hadn't invited her home with us sooner. I'd hate to be the mom who lets the class pet get maimed, or worse! Fortunately, they kept their interest on the outside of the cage and Frisky made it back to preschool unharmed.
Except I guess there's no telling what kind of psychological damage was done when Grant threw the Frisky-ball down the hallway ...
