Sweetest girl EVER!

The other day while Grant was out on his date with Grandma, Hope and I had a date of our own. The more I realize that full day kindergarten is around the corner, and is going to drastically limit and change the one-on-one time I get with my Hopey, the more I try to savor those times now. I'm SO glad I opted for 3-day preschool this year instead of 5-day, so that I can drag out her sweet little kid-ness for as long as I can before she's a real big kid. Anyway ... we were tickled to have the morning for "just me and you now!" (Which is what I always said to my mom after we dropped my big sister, Aunt K, off at preschool).

For our date, Hope and I gathered some of her very own money and went to the toy store to buy the toy she's been wanting for awhile. Not a doll, not a Barbie. No, a remote control rat. And she's enjoying the heck out of it. I love that she's not a cookie-cutter girl! After the toy store, we went for pedicures - she says the warm soak in the foot bath is the best part. Then I earned my cool points by agreeing to frozen yogurt before lunch. Of course she ruined her appetite for a real lunch, but I just love to delight and indulge her on dates :) Over her yogurt ("chocolate and plain" of course), we pretended to be spies. She was cute running around Tutti Frutti in her best sneaky spy way with her loud-as-can-be purple satin dress-up shoes clacking on the tile floor. And while I ate lunch and she picked at hers, we brought out the new rat and played a game of bad guy steals gold and the princess traps him in the rat's "lair." Her imagination never stops!

Unfortunately, when we got home I was hit hard with a terrible headache. She wanted to much to help me feel better. When I mentioned that the sun through the window was making it hurt worse, she brought a towel to put over my eyes. And when the headache still wouldn't go away, she gathered some art supplies and retreated to her room to make something. I figured it was going to be a card, but when she put whatever it was in the refrigerator, I became confused. Then she kept checking on it to see if it was cold yet. And when it finally was, she brought it out for me - out of paper and markers and glue she'd made me a headache mask like she's seen in Grandpa's refrigerator. She was so tender putting the slimy, sticky thing on my face :) Last but not least, she took it upon herself to make me a "nice, refreshing chocolate milk!" But since she couldn't reach the glasses, she opted to make it for me in a measuring cup and insisted that I use the pour spout to drink from - ha!

My headache did go away shortly after that, and we finished out Grant's naptime sitting in front of the open front door, enjoying the breeze. She ate tomatoes, and we just talked about everything. It was a good, good date!

Hope is SO like her Mama.....now I know you understand why being a mother was so precious to me - and why I STILL miss my little girls.

But even though my little ones changed, my love never will.
