Wake-up cuddle

Hope likes to take her mornings sloooooowly. From the time that she could stand up in the crib, she's wanted to begin the day with a long period of playing and cuddling in bed.

Ever since she moved into her big girl room and her big girl bed, we've been able to climb in with her for extended wake-up cuddles. We twirl each others' hair while she drinks her milk, then there's usually some kind of role playing with her animal friends.

I was afraid that when Grant came along we wouldn't be able to have that special time anymore. I was afraid she'd miss it, and I knew I would. And honestly, sometimes it doesn't happen. Or sometimes he's sleeping so it's just me and her, like before. But most of the time, he's with me when we go get her out of bed and it's no less sweet for her than it used to be.

In fact, she seems to be of the "the more, the merrier" school of thought.

I know she misses all the one-on-one attention that she used to get. But I know she wouldn't trade her brother for anything.

Very often, bringing him in bed with us when we give Hope her wake-up cuddle eventually results in her getting a bit too excited and squishing him in some way. We're working on that. But I'm happy and relieved to see my first born so in love with my second.

I love the expression on Daddy's face in these photos...no words necessary.
