This year for her birthday, Hope said she just wanted to have a few friends over to play messy games in the yard. Easy enough! They played water balloon volleyball, which just turned into a giant water balloon fight, the "Eat It or Wear It" challenge, and some recess games (Mafia, hide and seek, etc). The girls were here for four hours, mostly on their own, running in and out and shrieking and having a great time!
Hope got a "hover board" from both sets of grandparents, some bike clothes and a new violin from Daddy and me, a shopping trip at Claire's from Grandmom, an Amazon tablet from Grandma and Grandpa, and an axolotl fanny pack and stuffed animal from Grant. The axolotl is her new favorite animal, and I swear I think those were her favorite gifts. She and Grant both got a little teary when she read his adorable card and opened his gifts - he was so excited to give her something he knew she would love, and she was sort of overwhelmed by the genuine affection and sentiment in his gift. Watching that play out was a true gift to me!
