Sick days

It shouldn't ever come as a surprise when the kids bring home a cold at the beginning of the school year. Still, it tends to catch me off guard. This one involved a particularly nasty cough which turned into croup in the wee hours of the morning for Grant. Night air and humidity didn't do the trick, so I took him to the emergency room - our first EVER, if you can believe that. He needed a steroid and nebulizer breathing treatment, and was released an hour or two later.

Here, Grant is practicing his math facts so he didn't fall behind at school. His teacher said to use whatever we had on hand, so Grant suggested emptying the jar I've been collecting corks in for years. A good excuse to get into something he's been wanting to play with for a long time!

Grant stayed home from school for two days, then went back as good as new only to have Hope catch the cold! She also needed a couple of days at home, which we made the most of with "tween" movies and lots of reading. She felt pretty special being grown up enough to watch "13 Going on 30!"
