School Challenges

Now that the school year is half over, Grant is finally adjusted to the kindergarten routine. He has liked his teacher and classmates, and enjoys all the related arts and special events, but has taken awhile to get used to the idea that school is five days in a row. I guess he was used to the every other day schedule of preschool! It also took him some time to find his groove at recess. He hasn't wanted to play soccer, which I guess a lot of the boys play, so he's been trying to figure out what to do and who to play with. Nowadays, he tells me he plays basketball with some boys one day, tag with other boys another day, and on the playground with other friends another day. Sounds good to me!

Hope has always been happy at school, but her challenge this year has been with the work load and responsibilities. She was invited to join an extra class about weather, which she really enjoyed, but it was a LOT of work. She's also taking violin, and karate, and we've been doing a family small group at church. I know some families do tons of activities, but for us, that was the maximum we could handle. I was relieved when the weather class was over, but she just started another invitation-only class about bridges and engineering. So far, this one is a bit less intense and she's better able to manage her responsibilities. She was also accepted to G/T math, but we declined for now. Still, I'm super proud of her!
