Girl talk

Hope has really blessed me a few times lately by asking me to talk through something with her, or thanking me over and over after we've talked about something (being nervous about her first violin concert, drama with friends, frustrations with Grant, etc). I can't imagine any other kid asking their mom to talk through a confusing feeling they were having, let alone thank them profusely afterward. She says things like, "Mom can you talk with me about this? Because it always helps when you do. And you really understand me. And I'll feel better after we talk about it."

She's 8! What a precious, extraordinary gift she is!

What she doesn't realize (or does she ...?) is that talking with her about x, y, and z makes me feel better too. It shows me how mature she is, how independent, and that she still has a heart of gold. And when she thanks me with those beautiful, heartfelt words, it's better than anything. Those words are like diamonds, and they'll stay with me always!
