Gonna Miss This!

I was naive to think I'd send BOTH kids off to school this year, and skip home to enjoy quiet peaceful days. I will enjoy the extra time, and I will enjoy watching Hope and Grant blossom at school, but skipping home on the first day suddenly doesn't seem so likely.

As much as I love having Hope around, at this point, I'm used to her going to school. But I'm definitely not used to Grant being away all day, and while I really do know it's going to be great for both of us, I'm feeling pretty sentimental the past day or two.

Today is Friday and school starts on Monday. This morning Hope was invited to play at a friend's house, so Grant and I had a last little date "just the two of us." He wanted to go to the little coffee shop around the corner and read stories about himself from this very blog, which I have printed in four books. It was pretty much the perfect thing to do.

Reading those old stories about him as a baby, a toddler, and a preschooler highlighted how much he's grown and how long he's waited to start "real" school. He'll always be my baby, but my baby is ready, and I have to be too!
