Hope is 8!

How am I so delinquent in writing blog entries that it's been nearly two months since Hope's birthday? Oops!

Well, after much discussion and mind-changing, Hope finally settled on having a pool party with a few friends. It was very easy to put together, and seemed to be a crowd-pleaser.

She requested a cake that looked like a pool, and we stuck a "figurine" in the pool for each girl at the party. They got a kick out of it :)

I'm so grateful that Hope has, so far, had such a sweet group of friends in and out of school. I dread the seemingly inevitable "girl drama," and for now am incredibly delighted with the good-natured, supportive little girls Hope hangs out with.

Birthdays are a fun opportunity to catch up with Naomi, too. She and Hope don't see each other as much since we've moved apart from each other, but when they do get together, they're peas in a pod.

This isn't a super flattering picture, but it was a precious time worth remembering. It was the morning of Hope's actual birthday, before school. We were getting her breakfast put together, and stopped to have a moment. I was telling her how much she changed my life when she made me a mommy, how I loved her so much it physically hurt, and how I love her more now than I loved her then. I told her a bunch of the reasons why I'm proud of her, and the things I've noticed that tell me she's growing up. She didn't say much, but she was soaking it all in and squeezing me tight.
