Grant and I had SUCH a sweet and fun afternoon together today! I'd feel bad that Hope missed out on such a great time, but she was on a field trip to the Science Center with Daddy as her chaperone, and it sounds like they had a blast too.
Even though it's December, we had a freakishly warm day - mid 60's, which is unheard of around here. After preschool, Grant and I played at the playground for a little bit before heading home for lunch. On the way home, I told him we needed to pray for his friend at school, who may need heart surgery. It was a short little talk, but somehow it led to him asking if God is in everyone's hearts. Of course I said that, no, God loves everyone but he can only live in your heart if you ask him to. I'm still not sure he got it, but he said a tiny and very quiet prayer to ask God to live in his heart too! Later this evening, he proudly proclaimed to Hope and Daddy that God is in his heart now :)
After a quick bite of lunch at home, we went back outside and ended up staying outside for three hours!
We spent some time on the swings, doing "underdogs" and practicing pumping his legs. Then he hopped on my lap on the swing, so we were face to face. We swung that way for quite a while. We took turns wearing my sunglasses, we turned our swinging motion into a "kissing machine" (bonus for Mommy!), and we laughed and cuddled and really enjoyed it. But finally my legs were falling asleep! So we climbed up into the "hide out" part of the swing set and invented the story club. It simply consisted of Grant sitting on my lap and asking me to tell him one story after another. I told him the story of how I met Daddy, the story of Jesus healing the paralytic, the story of him running off at the park one day, the story of him eating a black marker, and the story of when Hope was born. I think he might have stayed there as long as I kept telling stories.
Then we played on the trampoline for a LONG time, where he asked if we could take pictures of each other. It was goofy, but I think I'll treasure these pictures because they'll remind me of our wonderful little day with each other. Today was definitely a white bread day!
