Grant's first "school"

Because Grant's birthday is late in September, he just barely misses the cut-off for school. So even though he would love to have started preschool this fall, he just isn't quite old enough. And honestly, I think in the long run it will be better for him to be a little older when he starts school. He's got plenty of preschool skills already (letter recognition, counting, colors, shapes, etc) and while his social skills are definitely improving lately, another year of maturity can only help.

Happily, there is a little class at the community center down the road called "My First School" that fits Grant perfectly. Twice a week, for two hours, he gets the have fun with his friends and be exposed to a classroom-like setting. They read books, do little art projects, sing, play, and just get the feel for listening to a teacher and getting along with classmates. It's good practice for him, and it's a little break for me. And I know he likes it because every time we drive past the community center, he announces excitedly, "There's my preschool!"

Grant is always learning though. Lately he's WAY into these Curious George computer games. He will sit at the computer in the kitchen and happily play cute little educational games for twenty minutes while I work on dinner. Win-win! And he really enjoys books. He can usually be convinced to snuggle in my lap and read for awhile, so of course he has a bunch of books memorized.

As Grandma said, I think as long as they keep school interesting for him, he's going to really love it.

I shouldn't comment on every post ( like a stalker... )
But I read them all over and over so I guess I AM a stalker.
So I will say to this post:
He is the most amazing boy! Taught himself potty training, taught himself the alphabet and I betcha he is going to be reading before he starts kindergarten! He has it all - good looks, masculinity, goofiness, compassion, brains, cuddliness.......I love Grant.
