Ear piercing!

Hope has been working all month, earning stickers every day for making her bed and keeping her toys picked up. I wanted to find something that would be a reasonably big deal to her to give her a goal to work towards. And we found something: ear piercing! She has been counting down the last few days, anticipating the big occasion. I'm so proud of her for working hard for something she really wanted!

Up until recently, Hope said she was scared to have her ears pierced. But somehow she changed her tune, and even though she knew it would hurt a little bit, she wanted to do it anyway. When we got to the store, she picked out a sweet little pair of gold heart earrings. Turns out they didn't have that pair in stock, so she chose the white gold version of the same hearts instead. Daddy was so sweet, telling her how much he liked that pair better anyway. We didn't want her to be disappointed!

Hope was eager to get up into the piercing chair and have the ladies mark where they'd make the holes. And when they brought out the piercing guns, she was stoic - quiet, but brave and still excited. I was ready with the camera to capture "the face" when they actually pierced her ears. I thought she'd squint her eyes or make a surprised face or something. Nope. She didn't cry or exclaim or anything. She just flashed me a brief look that said, "Mom ... that hurt ... I want you." Once we got a few feet away from the store she whispered as much to me. She said she thought she might cry for a second, but she decided not to. I love that she tells me her secrets.

Her ears are going to be a little tender for a day or two, but they aren't bothering her. Hope is, understandably, feeling very proud of her new earrings :)
