Halloween!

Like last year, one of this year's Halloween festivities was the costume parade and party at preschool. The kids are all so cute anyway, but seeing them feeling so proud of their costumes is really sweet. The school was filled with princesses, pirates, Smurfs, and superheroes but Hope was the only astronaut :)

I think this was the first Halloween that Hope had an opinion about her Halloween costume. The previous few years, I've shown her something I thought she'd like and she liked it. Easy. But this year she weighed her costume options heavily. For weeks she said she'd combine various pieces from the dress-up box to make a Blue Angel. But she scrapped that idea at the last minute.

I remember that Grant's only opinion of his costume last year was the he did NOT want to wear it! We fared better this year. He wore this pirate costume to church, but the hat didn't last more than a few minutes. His favorite part was the new rain boots, which he proudly showed off to our friends :)

I didn't know what to expect for trick-or-treating. It was Grant's first time, but I didn't know if he'd be into it. And last year Hope only went to one house, so I thought she might not be into it either. But once they donned their trick-or-treat costumes, a witch and Spiderman, they were raring to go! It helped that we went up and down the street with our neighbors and their little girl, Autumn. Have I mentioned that Grant and Autumn are crazy wild about each other?!

We probably spent about an hour going door-to-door. Grant and Autumn weren't as into it as Hope was, but they all had fun. When we got home we dumped the candy into one big bowl and let the kids pick out a few things to eat before bed. My strange children? Grant chose pretzels and graham crackers, and Hope chose Nerds and the apple slices from Autumn's mom (Ms. Jessica, who knows Hope's tastes very well!).
