We adapt

When Grant was first able to roll around on the floor and grab for toys, Hope thought it was kind of cute when he grabbed something she was playing with. Usually it was some kind of princess doll, so she'd say he was the dragon and she'd go along with her game, now plotting to rescue the princess from the dragon.

Then the Dragon got a little more capable and could crawl or walk over to her setup, grab for her toys, and hold on a bit tighter. Hope began to think that was annoying, but she could generally keep the peace by offering Grant something else in exchange for the toy he'd taken from her.

Nowadays, Grant is very capable of reaching into Hope's immaculately arranged dollhouse, stable, or whatever she's doing, grab a doll, and hold on for dear life. And he can put up quite a fuss when she tries to take it back. Their strength is pretty well matched right now - much to her shagrin.

So Hope has lately taken to outwitting the Dragon by taking coveted toys, books, etc. into places where Grant can't reach. On top of his changing table and inside his crib are her two favorite places.

Hope is the first to admit that she loves her brother with all her heart, but man, he can really get on her nerves too!

This is wonderful! For some reason it reminds me of when I realized that my arms were longer than Dave's. I could put my hand on his chest and hold him far enough away that he couldn't hit/smack/tickle me. It was a beautiful day.
