We recently spent a weekend in Hershey, PA to soak up a little family time. Amusement parks aren't my "thing," but we had loads of fun at Chocolate World on the first day when it rained, and then perfect weather the next day for Hershey Park.

Being on our own, with the whole day and no agenda, made for a nice and leisurely amusement park experience. Usually my gripe is that it's too hot, too crowded, and too expensive for those of us who aren't interested in roller coasters! This time, that wasn't the case - and it helped that we'd booked a hotel so we didn't have to drive up and back in one day.

We had fun with the "make your own chocolate bar" experience, and of course Hope and Grant enjoyed picking out their souvenir - she ended up with a Hershey bar stuffed animal, and he got a travel mug full of Jolly Ranchers. In recent trips I've discovered that it's totally worth the $30 to buy them each a souvenir, and then they know that they've made their choice and don't need to ask for the rest of the trip!

Daddy is the only one of us that cares about roller coasters, but he didn't care enough to go ride one by himself. So we mostly stuck to the smaller rides and the kid stuff, but we all had fun with it. Hope and Grant enjoyed being at the hotel too. It doesn't matter to them if it's a fancy place or a completely ordinary place - they just like the hotel experience of an indoor pool, little free shampoos, a continental breakfast, and key cards. They're easy to amuse!
