Chincoteague

At the end of May, with another three weeks before school let out and it was officially summer break, we were just ready for a mini-vacation. We'd been so busy, with lots of friends and visitors and good things - but we all needed a long weekend away to enjoy each other and RELAX. Fortunately, I'd scooped up a deal for a weekend stay at a hotel on Chincoteague Island, VA and this was just the time to use it.

It was definitely not hot enough to swim in the ocean, but that didn't stop Hope and Grant. I sat in my beach chair, enjoying the smells and sounds from the comfort of my sweatshirt while they frolicked and played in the waves. I don't know how they could stand it, but they had a ball.

The beach at Chincoteague is pretty small, but very nicely kept. Even though I'm more of a lake girl than a beach girl, it felt glorious to be there. As soon as you sink your toes in the sand you feel that wonderful feeling of being on vacation wash over you!

Our hotel provided breakfast both days, but we enjoyed exploring the tiny island for lunch and dinner. We stumbled on this brand new roadside place, Pico's Taqueria, and found it to be so good we ate there twice in a weekend! Not only was the food great (Daddy said it was the best taco's he's had since leaving Texas and California) but the kids loved the soda in glass bottles, eating outside, the hammocks, and all the lawn games they provided. It definitely added to the slow, easy, relaxation we were going for!

We also had fun at the lighthouse, and the little hike to see it. We spotted the "wild" ponies that Chincoteague is famous for several times, but honestly they didn't do much for us - we see ponies every day where we live.

Hope and Grant always love staying in hotels, and this one was no exception even though it was completely ordinary. But it did have a pool, which they enjoyed! No doubt about it, though, what we all enjoyed was a little time away with each other - no agenda, no other people, just sweet white bread days!
