On the potty train

I still can't believe this, but out of nowhere ... Grant is potty trained!

Yes, trained. As in, totally with the program and rarely makes a mistake. Crazy!

A couple of weeks ago he was struggling with a diaper rash, so I let him spend the morning diaper-less. To my surprise, he took himself to the potty every time he needed to go. What?! I thought it might be a fluke, but by the time the day was done, he'd gone successfully all day without a mistake.

I've been dreading potty training, mostly because I remember how training Hope was a long and messy process, and I figured with Grant being as headstrong as he is, it would only be harder. But apparently his headstrong nature is working to our advantage this time. He decided that he wants to go on the potty now, and that's it! And, oh by the way, don't even try to get him to use the training potty. And don't suggest that he sit down to pee. He wants to stand up and use the big potty - like he's been doing it that way his whole life!

It happened so fast that it caught me unprepared - I had to make an emergency run out to buy some teeny tiny undies. And he looks SO CUTE in them! Swoon!

The only downside to Grant using the potty is that he wants to use it when he gets the urge at night too. Rather, he's managing to stay dry all night until about 5:30am when he wakes up needing to pee. Then he won't go back to sleep. So it's been two weeks of painfully early mornings around here! But I hear this is a normal phase, though I don't remember it with Hope, so I'm hoping we can get back to our normal wake-up time soon. In fact, today was 6:20am, so maybe it'll be soon? Please?

What Grant is capable of never ceases to amaze me. Why should potty training be any different!
