Daddy called us one day last week to say that he'd be home late, and he explained that he'd had a terrible day at work. I told Hope we ought to be very sweet to Daddy when he got home, because he'd had a rotten day. She got right to work setting the stage for him.
First she laid out his pajamas and slippers on our bed. Then she picked a bottle of wine from our wine rack and insisted that I get out a wine glass for Daddy too. I promise we don't make a habit of saying, "Man I had a hard day! Let's get wasted!" But leave it to Ms. Observant to know that sometimes we unwind with a glass in the evening ...
Next she put a towel by the front door because it was raining, and she thought she'd wipe the raindrops off Daddy's head. Then she decorated Daddy's place at the table with things he'd think were beautiful and things to make him comfortable. A pillow and blanket for his chair, a vase of flowers (the flowers Daddy just bought for ME the day before), a couple of knick-knacks from Hope's room, and the pièce de résistance: a framed picture of Hope herself! Ha!
With the few minutes she had left before Daddy got home, Hope drew a picture depicting Daddy's bad day at work, complete with angry faces on Daddy and his boss. Maybe someday Daddy can add it to his collection of Hope art in his office ;)
I love that Hope is so thoughtful and empathetic. She definitely helped turn Daddy's day around!

It is hard to keep having a bad day when your daughter hooks you up like that!
How sweet! She is so creative and considerate. :) I bet Daddy's day turned right around thanks to her (and that wine). Heh.
This so illustrates her compassionate little soul......and hers illustrates YOURS.
Precious girls.
